英语专业培养具有较高的人文素养、熟练的英语听、说、读、写、译等基本技能、具有一定的英语语言文学专业知识和其它相关知识（包括教育、旅游、经贸、市场营销等知识）、具有较强的跨文化交际能力和宽阔的国际视野、能在外事、外企、经贸、教育等部门熟练运用英语从事翻译、教育、外贸、管理等工作、具有创新意识和解决实际问题能力的应用型英语专门人才。

本专业现有教师45名，教授5名，副教授7名，外籍教师4名；近三年来教师在各类学术期刊上发表论文约30篇，主持4项科研课题。2017年英语语言文学学科被评为广东省重点培育学科，涵盖英语、翻译、商务英语专业，辐射全院所有学科和专业。学生在全国大学生英语竞赛中成绩斐然。近五年学生平均就业率98%，每年均有学生跨国就业，多名学生考取英国纽卡斯尔大学，悉尼大学，华南农业大学，香港教育大学等国内外知名大学硕士研究生。

English Major commits to cultivate application-oriented English professionals with the following qualifications: They have high humanistic literacy. They are proficient in English listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. They grasp professional knowledge of English language and literature and other related knowledge (including education, tourism, economy and trade, marketing, etc.). They are capable of cross-cultural communication. They have broad international vision. They have innovative consciousness and ability to solve a practical problem. They can be engaged in translation, education, foreign trade, management and other work in foreign affairs, foreign enterprises, economy and trade, education and other departments with English proficiency.

There are 45 professional teachers, including 5 professors, 7 associate professors and 4 foreign teachers. In the past three years, they published about 30 papers in various academic journals and presided 4 scientific research projects. In 2017, English Language and Literature was selected as one of the key disciplines of Guangdong, covering English, Translation, and Business English; and benefiting all other majors. Students have made outstanding achievements in the National English Competition for College Students. In the past five years, the average employment rate of the graduates has been constantly over 98%. And every year, a number of graduates get the chance to work abroad. Moreover, quite a few students have been admitted to prestigious universities at home and abroad for postgraduate study, such as the University of Newcastle, the University of Sydney, South China Agricultural University, Hong Kong University of Education, etc.
